The Amazon region is the world’s largest source of biodiversity; the lungs of our planet. It holds 20 percent of our fresh water and is crucial in mitigating the effects of climate change. Humanity’s survival depends on the Amazon Rainforest and yet the destruction continues with plans for new oil fields, hydroelectric dams and a massive Water Highway project which would dredge 4 major rivers and cause irreversible damage.
The plunder and contamination of the Amazon region is not just South America’s problem – it will be a global catastrophe.
We are working with indigenous groups and their supporters to protect the Amazon’s environment and indigenous peoples. Our main allies are Huaynakana Kamatahuara kana – the Kukama Women’s Federation, Radio Ucamara, an indigenous community radio station, and the Institute of Legal Defense (IDL), based in Lima.
We have made short films to support several urgent legal campaigns. Please watch, reflect and share.
